54 Please remember to mention OVL when responding to adverts On Tuesday 8 September Pauline Stewart became the 64th President of Soroptimist International Bedford SI Bedford. The chain of office was handed over by outgoing President Carolyn Lightfoot at Bedford Golf Club with 25 members of the club and 28 guests attending. Each new president can elect their charity of choice and Pauline has selected Street Child United a charity supporting street children around the world using football www.streetchildunited.org Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls. Our network of around 80000 club members in 130 countries and territories works at local national and international level to educate empower and enable opportunities for women and girls. The organisation was started in 1921 in Oakland California. Members join their local club make friends with like- minded women have fun and work on projects that help improve the lives of women and girls. We are a vibrant dynamic womens voluntary organisation for todays professional and business women. We are committed to a world where women and girls together achieve their individual and collective potential realise aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong and peaceful communities worldwide. Pauline said on the evening Being part of one of the longest running womens groups in the world is simply not enough. We need to sustain the membership grow in number enabling members to continue with projects aimed at transforming the lives of women and girls.
